The Leak Detection team was called out this morning due to a high water bill in Holiday, Florida. This was a large, luxurious home in Holiday, Florida. Upon arrival at this luxurious Holiday, Florida home our first step was to check the water meter for signs of a plumbing leak. The water meter was spinning out of control with no water turned on in the house. Over just a short while, the size of this water leak would definitely lead to a high water bill. High water bills can be very frustrating if there are no clues as to where the source of the water leak is. A visual inspection of the property gave our leak detection technician no clues as to the source of the water leak or the high water bill.
By using out state of the art leak detection equipment we were able to track down the water pipe leak to a piece of PVC pipe where it attached to a brass nut. Luckily, this pipe leak was located outside of the property underneath some brick pavers. The PVC plastic water pipe was melted at this connection (see pictures below) indicating that this water pipe leak had been caused by a lightning strike. Pipe leaks can be caused by many different factors, including lightning strikes.
