A Tampa homeowner contacted I Find Leaks in regards to water damage to their wood laminate flooring. Once wood laminate flooring experiences water damage, it begins to cup and buckle. When wood laminate flooring is installed, it is typically installed with a “pad” or a vapor barrier. This vapor barrier works two ways as it keeps water out, but also traps water in once a water leak occurs. The only way we have found to repair water damage to wood laminate flooring is to remove the wood laminate flooring and the pad underneath the wood laminate flooring. Once the wood laminate flooring and pad is removed, we use industrial dehumidifiers to dry the concrete slab and any walls that are water damaged. Only after the floors and walls are dry can new wood laminate flooring be installed. As you can see in the pictures below, these wood laminate floors began to buckle overnight after a water leak occurred. If water is not dried up effectively after a water damage issue occurs, it can possible lead to mold growth.
